PROMOTION OF LGBT’S RIGHTS AND INCREASING MEN’S PARTICIPATION IN GENDER EQUALITY AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION IN VIETNAM (Phase II from 2011 to 2013)


Project: "Supporting to LGBT’s rights and encouraging men’s participation to prevent domestic violence" - Phase 1 has ended with success such as:

In the component of “enhancing the implementation of the rights of lesbians”, the project has connected with lesbian communities in Hanoi, creating confidence for them via direct support acitivities such as counseling, exhibitions, participation in research groups, idea contribution, or co-writer of books. The project outcomed many impressive products for homosexual people, especially the autobiography of “Real Life, True Happiness”.

In the component "Encouraging men’s participation to prevent domestic violence ", CSAGA conducted a media campaign "Men say no to domestic violence" with film and talks activities, the campaign has attracted thousands of participants. Ended Campaign is the exhibition "I am a real man", this is the place to show the contest products of men in Hanoi. The exhibition has contributed widely shared images of "the ideal men" loving and families care, from which encourage other men paticipate in improving gender equality and prevention of domestic violence.

Following the success of Phase 1, sponsored by the Embassy of Sweden, CSAGA continue the Phase 2 of the project. At this phase, CSAGA continued implementation of two main components are improve the rights of lesbians and encourage the participation of men in preventing domestic violence. Specific information as follows:

Goals

The general goal: Fostering the implementation of rights of lesbians and the rights to free from violence of women in Vietnam The specific goal are:
1. The community of lesbians in Vietnam have enough inner capability to implement their own rights and to be respected by the society
2. Vietnamese men have ability and opportunities to act for gender equity and the fight against domestic violence in Vietnam.

Objectives

Objectives for the development of of inner capacity for lesbians and increase the respect from the society toward the rights of lesbians:
1. The community of lesbians is in a cohesion and their development is organized.
2. Lesbians and their families receive the services of professional psychological and efficient support.
3. The rights of lesbians are widely known and respected.

Objectives for the increase of capacity and opportunities of men to act for gender equity and the fight against domestic violence in Vietnam:
1. Men are able to realize and know how to implement their roles in fostering gender equity.
2. Perpetrators of domestic violence can adjust their behaviours.
3. The capacity of working with men and specific activities at local and national level is strengthened and developed.
