This project is fund by the Hanoi International Women Club (HIWC) and ensures two clubs in Cau Giay District, Hanoi and Yen Vien (Gia Lam District, Hanoi) to continue until May 2009.
Beside HIWC, the People’s Committee of the place of implementing collaborates to establish these clubs for victims of domestic violence called “Sharing Together”.
The main objective of this club is to empower women who became victims of domestic violence to enable them to fight against domestic violence in their families and environment.
First of all, these easily vulnerable members of society need a safe and sincere environment to share each others experiences and get more self-confidence to face and finally try to solve their problems. Furthermore information about domestic violence, women’s rights and ways to prevent domestic violence will be provided.
The meeting of a club is once a month with following activities. In the beginning of each meeting there are some ice-breaking activities like simple games to get the women closer to each other and create a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Afterwards information about domestic violence and gender equality are provided. The participants get skills and learn ways to prevent domestic violence and build a happy family. Women’s rights in the national law like the “Domestic Violence Prevention Law” and their rights in international conventions will be propagandized to make them understand about their rights and possibilities.
The last part of the meeting will be the sharing of their feelings and experiences. They will get support from other members and participating members of the Women Union to overcome their situation.
In all activities an arts-based approach with a wide participation of the women will be used to make these clubs as effective as possible, give the women a feeling of support and establish a friendly place for them. This club model has proved to be a very successful one and CSAGA hopes to extend the establishing of such clubs to more places.
