News | Women’s fates 1 | Book presentation “Left-Handed” and Film presentation “Little Heart” about “women trafficking” in cooperation with Csaga
Film and literature 17.12.2011, 7pm Goethe-Institut Hanoi +84 4 3734 2251 info@hanoi.goethe.org

On Saturday the 17th of December, 2011 at 7pm the presents two interesting works about “Women’s fates” in collaboration with the Vietnamese organization Csaga (Center for Studies and Applied Sciences in Gender, Family, Women and Adolescents).
The novel “Left-handed”
For each human being the right to love is the most valuable one in life. However, there are many people in society who are suppressed in their rights to live their love. Homosexual love between a man and a man or between a woman and a woman is still socially discriminated. How do Lesbians live their lives and how do they deal with their inner struggles and often painful sufferings they are forced to go through in social life?
The novel “Left-handed”, published by Csaga, gives an insight in real-life stories of Lesbians today and motivates the reader to reflect.
The Film “The Little Heart”
A place somewhere in between the massive sand dunes of Quang Binh province is home to a family as many others. Out of poverty and hopelessness the mother takes refuge in alcohol, the father often becomes violent. The oldest daughter, the 19 year old Mai, has got only one desire: to leave this life behind. She trusts the promises of a seemingly helpful, elderly woman in the village to give her work as a seamstress in Saigon. But when Mai arrives in the big city, all promises prove to be brutal deception. Will Mai succeed in freeing herself from this net of dependences and to create a better future for her and her family?
The movie “The Little Heart”, which was produced by the Vietnamese Film Cooperation, has been awarded at international and national film festivals. The film shows the complex causes by which women become kept in dependence, in a dramatically escalating story and with impressive characters (great: Hong Anh as Mai).
During this day a book sale of the collection of short stories “Left-handed” (Vietnamese Price/ English Price 79,000 VNĐ / 4 USD) and a DVD sale of the presented film “little heart” (120,000 VNĐ / 6 USD) will accompany the program. All proceeds go directly Csaga to support their activities.
This event is presented by Ms. Nguyen Vân Anh (Csaga).
Simultaneous Translation in English by Ms. Nguyen Thu Loan (Csaga).
